As I read back over the previous Parent Perspectives, I find many of my feelings have already been voiced. As a parent, I want to instill in my children compassion, selflessness, giving back to the community and so much more. I was struggling to find something that would support these values and that I felt Marina could really be passionate about and enjoy. I had heard about PFO back in 2007 and thought it sounded like a really great idea. I was, however, a bit scared about the commitment. Last year Marina and I went to “Honk” and were just blown away. I was so amazed with the energy that these kids exuded and the money they were able to raise. Their excitement was contagious.
Now that Marina is in PFO, I love that she has a place to go where she is surrounded by such positive and uplifting peers. Through PFO, she is prompted to think about others rather than herself and sometimes is even pulled out of her comfort zone. As a parent, I’m grateful that she has such an opportunity to grow and develop.
Since this is our first year, we have yet to experience the busy season with PFO. I am a little nervous about the time commitment, but that concern is outweighed by my excitement for Marina to have an opportunity for greater involvement and immersion in PFO.
