I stumbled upon Playing for Others during my freshman year in high school. The endearing and vivacious Jamie Marsicano was actually the one who first turned me on to the program. Every few weeks, I noticed a light blue t-shirt with the words “Playing for Others” written on it. Well, after sitting behind him for a few months in english class, that logo was undoubtedly burned into my brain.
As summer fever set in and the last few months of my freshman year droned on, my mom began telling me about an organization that her company had been working with. The name? Playing for Others. Why was she telling me all this? We had been offered complimentary tickets to their show A Year With Frog and Toad. I must admit, a kids show did seem a bit tedious and unappealing, but my mom was dead set on me going. So, I went along with it. Thankfully, my mom took me to the check presentation, and I fell in love with the organization. I couldn’t help but be in tears after listening to the change within these kids, kids my age. I wanted to feel that, and I was dead set on joining.
Well, that’s my story. From then on, my years at PFO have proved to be well worth it. Who would have thought that Jamie Marsicano’s choice of clothing started it all?
