I first heard about PFO through my friends who called it a “life changing experience.” I decided that I would like to change my life, so I joined. Little did I know that it would change my entire outlook.

My first year in PFO, I was put in the publicity committee, which was a great experience. I learned how to communicate effectively and professionally with business leaders, which is a skill I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I was also paired with Retsel as my buddy. She is possibly one of the sweetest and funniest girls I’ve ever met. Her fierce attitude and her perseverance taught me so much about how to live my life. At the end of the year her caretaker came up to me and said, “You have changed this girl’s world.” I responded, “No, she’s changed mine.” my first year in PFO was amazing and I knew that I had to be involved next year.

And so began my second, current year in PFO. I am secretary of the publicity stunt committee, so I’m learning even more about responsibility and the importance of following through on tasks. I am also buddies up with Frannie, a 14 year old girl with dyautonomia. We have grown so close this year and I know we will keep in touch with her even after our year is over.

Unfortunately, this is my last year in PFO, but I know I’ll stay involved with this organization and keep in touch with my buddies. I learned so much and I can honestly say that PFO has changed my life for the better.
