They say laughter is the best medicine. If that’s the case, then I must be the healthiest theatre director in Charlotte :) We are only three rehearsals into the Theatre Experience and already the cast is groovin’, the harmonies are gellin’ and everyone leaves with the biggest most exhausted smile on their face.
Theatre is about creating a magical experience for the audience, telling a story that moves them in some way. This show moves you towards a smile, a laugh and a sentimental tear at the end. Children will be delighted with the fantastical costumes and set, while adults will marvel at the talent of the teens and the energy exuberating off of the stage. But for me, the magic actually happens somewhere else.
Being in the rehearsal room is like being in some crazy parallel universe where teens are positive, supportive and united in the mission to take what they’re passionate about and use it to benefit the greater good. The PFO rehearsal is one where it’s not about how many lines you have, how often you’re on stage or how your costume makes you look. It’s about the experience. It’s about knowing that the person standing beside of you cares just as much as you do about making a difference. It’s about the million laughs you share with each member of that cast. It’s about working together to tell a beautiful story about not judging people for what they look like on the outside (human or monster). It’s about joy, positivity and love. Where in the world does that happen!?!?
Well it starts in the PFO rehearsal room…where it goes from there, who knows :)
