Sarah Campbell Tucker: February
Hey Journey Group!
Last week, the PFO committee “experience” was kicked off with our first meeting! All five of the committees met to discuss the first steps in each of our projects. We had a dance party (of course), meetings, and then a Life Talk at the end. The Life Dalks are sessions lead by PFO teens that encourage us to gain a better understanding of ourselves and others. But let me back track a little and explain committees.
At the beginning of the PFO year, teens are placed into one of five committees: Photography, Children’s Book, Publicity, Open House, and Winter Ball. Each one is responsible for a certain project within PFO. I’m on the Winter Ball committee this year and am so excited! Our project is to plan and put on the annual teen Winter Ball. It’s an event that is held every year to spread the word about PFO, not to mention it’s an awesome night. It’s open to all high
schoolers that know a PFO teen. Our committee has a ton of goals for this party! We want it to be really fun, to raise interest in PFO, and to be a night no one will forget. But we also have group-wide goals.
It’s very important for us as a committee to strengthen our relationships with one another and have everyone feel like they have accomplished something at the end. And I also have goals for myself. I want to learn how to be responsible for things that affect more than myself, I want to feel like I contributed to the project, and I want to make really strong bonds with the other people in my committee. I’m excited to spend the next two months with my committee!
Thanks so much for reading!
