Caroline Hensley: September

Hello, and welcome to my monthly PFO blog! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Caroline Hensley and I’m a new Playing for Others teen this year. I am so incredibly excited to be able to share everything that PFO is doing and all that I get to be a part of this year with all of you!
As a first update, all of the PFO teens and advisors joined together for an amazing weekend retreat earlier this summer at the beautiful Whitehead Manner. We attended workshops in small groups on topics such as budgeting, technology usage, the Arts Festival, and several different disabilities. The retreat was an incredible learning experience for all of us, as we were introduced into the wonderful world of Playing for Others. I now know how to properly speak about PFO, how to control body language, how to interact with social media, and so much more! Not only did all of the teens learn a ton at the retreat, but we also had loads of fun playing games and meeting everyone. The teens and advisors were also put into our committees for year. I was placed into the Costume Committee, and I am looking forward to working with my group and our lovely advisor, Hope, this year to make the costumes for the show “The Pied Piper”. I absolutely adore everyone I met at the retreat, and I can’t believe how close we all became in a matter of only four days!
During the retreat, I also had the pleasure of learning that my buddy for the year is Kinzey Taylor! Kinzey is an adorable little girl with Autism, and I get to meet her and her family for the first time this upcoming weekend. I am beyond excited!
Playing for Others has only just started, yet it has already become a huge part of my life. Everything about our organization is simply awe-inspiring. I get to meet lifelong friends while sharing in my passion for the arts, and to top it all, I am privileged enough to be a part of the building of a better community. This year is going to be awesome!
I can’t wait to tell you all about my experience meeting Kinzey and seeing my Playing For Others family again in the near future. Until then, I hope you’ll take the time to check out more about PFO here on our website, and have a great day! BYE!
